Want Happiness, Don't Compare Yourself to Other People.

When I say happiness I'm not talking about the fleeting feeling of elation when something awesome happens to us. I mean a general contentness with life. When you feel like most things go ok for you and you're generally content and satisfied.

The reason I make the distinction is because it's impossible to feel elated all the time, and even if you did eventually that would be your baseline and it would be even harder to be happy. So for our purpose happiness = being generally content and satisfied with your life over a period of time.

So how do you achieve this? Stop comparing yourself others. You've heard this before and it's true. When you see people you see them in a instant, for a moment. In that moment they may seem like they have their life together as they drive away in their fancy car. Here's the thing and this is true so listen up. Nicer, high end things don't bring happiness. Sure they look nice but they don't make you happy.

The other thing is you're only seeing this person for an instant. They could be miserable or almost completely crushed by stress. You'll never know because people act different in public than they do at home and you'll never see them at home.

Now, here's how to tell if you're happy, or content. Measure your happiness when your alone at the end of the day, write down what you're happy for. Write something new down on the sheet everyday. Then after awhile you'll see how much stuff you have to be happy for. Most of your life is what you focus on. Focus on the negative and you'll see the negative, focus on the positive and you'll see the positive.

This has been Bloom and that's my time.
